London Design Festival 2017: Industry Publicity Selects

Vibrant, emotional, non-conformist, experimental and with a hint of the unexpected: we select 10 of the best at this year’s London Design Festival.

ONEROOM
Founded by Milanese duo Vittorio Locatelli and Carlo Ninchi, ONEROOM Gallery has landed in a four-storey Shoreditch warehouse. Filled to the rafters with rare and heritage pieces, think Gio Ponti, Fornasetti, Paul Evans, plus the added bonus of supporting emerging talent – this September see them dedicate a floor to renowned design superstar Bethan Laura Wood.

Child Studio
Fronted by duo Chieh Huang and Alexey Kostikov, Child Studio first sprung to the scene during Milan Design Week 2017 with their collection of lighting sculptures titled ‘In the Shadow of a Man’. This September, their sculptures come to London, inviting us to explore the perception of reality and fantasy as part of Punctuating Space at Viaduct.

STAC Architecture
Concrete tiles might sound dull, but this enterprising architectural practice have come up with an original concept – a modular wall tile. Imagine being able to create different designs with one tile and then add into the mix a variety of colours and finishes – better than it sounds.

Valerie Objects
Antwerp based company Valerie Objets is boundless in its discovery of exciting new homeware and furniture. Working with a list of designers who range from Muller Van Severen,  Maarten Bass, The Alfred Collection and Chris Kabel, they continually challenge designers to explore and invent new territory to re-design.

Michaël Verheyden
Belgian designer and former model who once designed leather goods for Rick Owens, is now establishing himself as a designer of luxury interior accessories. In London he is collaborating with the Great British luxury interiors brand, CTO Lighting on a new collection called LUCID comprising of alabaster and silver oxidised brass. ‘I like a certain austerity in life, which I try to translate in my work,’ says Verheyden. ‘I want the things I own and design to be of the highest quality. Proportions and details are important to me a light has to function as a beautiful object, even when it’s switched off.’

Giopato & Coombes
Anglo-Italian duo: an architect and designer who run a multidisciplinary studio creating light magic. Beauty combined with brains. Elaborate shapes, handblown glass almost artworks with the added benefit of illumination. Part of Punctuting Space at Viaduct.

Jack Trench Kitchens
Launching their EC1 showroom during the Festival, a partner in Clerkenwell Design Quarter, these beautiful hand-crafted kitchens use the highest grade materials combined with clever detailing to create the most exciting and original kitchens.

James Mair

CTO Lighting at Decorex
Chris & Clare Turner, founders of CTO Lighting, have kept a low profile in the world of interiors over the last twenty years whilst they have built their business. They have come to define luxury bespoke lighting with projects that span Chiltern Firehouse to the Rosewood Hotel. Cool but quiet.

Bethan Laura Wood
London-based designer Bethan Laura Wood’s work is driven by a fascination with the connection between humans and objects an original thinker whose approach defies predicability. The first guest artist, a collection of her signature works will be on display at ONEROOM gallery.
