Northmodern, Copenhagen is the newest design show in Europe, housed in a state of the art conference centre which includes the AC Bella Sky hotel designed by 3XN. With its giant attention grabbing, angular wings (the hotel towers have a staggering 15º incline) that lean out across the skyline, whilst the exhibition luxuriates at ground level.
The northmodern fair is a cleverly designed complex of light filled spaces, living walls and Danish gastronomy. There is no other show to touch this for its high level presentation and commitment to the art of design. The brainchild of Kristian W Andersen, who is currently masterminding fashion and art shows – also at the Bella Centre – is on a mission to make Copenhagen the rightful capital of world class design.
With over 300 brands exhibited, northmodern showed Nordic designs from the likes of Menu, Muuto, Friends & Founders, Nomess, Overgard & Dyrman and Paustian alongside classics from Fritz Hansen, PP Mobler, Georg Jensen, Artek. The list of new name exhibitors was testament to the fact that Danish Design goes beyond the Masters of mid-century. Northmodern wasn’t only all about the Scandinavians it included design from all over Europe.
